No.170 was built by the Old Colony RR in 1892 and was renumbered NYNH&H No.770 in March,1893 when the New Haven leased the Old Colony. No.770 was assigned Class L-1 in 1899 when the New Haven instituted its classification system. It was renumbered to No.601 in September,1904 when the New Haven renumbered its entire locomotive inventory. By 1907 No.601 was re-classified M-1 and was finally retired on June 30,1925.- Historical Information for No.170 courtesy of the New Haven Railroad Historical & Technical Association, Inc. Incorporated in 1838, the Old Colony RR became an extensive system that served southeastern Massachusetts. The Old Colony system went out of existence when leased by the New York, New Haven & Hartford RR in March, 1893. Date and photographer for this photograph are unknown. Notice a second photographer on the far side of the locomotive. |
