The dominant army reaches the city walls of the enemy. A large cannon
is visible which places the date of this Battle no earlier than the
first quarter of the 14th century, a time when cannon are first recorded
in European warfare. Early artillery cannon were made of wrought iron,
which was banded to reduce the danger of explosion during firing. |
