Figure 1 is confusing. The boat is a basic cog of the 12th and 12th centuries with primitive stern castle - aftercastle. But where is the mast and sail?

Figure 2 is a typical 13th century cog.

Figure 3 is Mediterranean galley of the period, which often did not have masts and sail. Note the crossbow archers.

Figures 4 & 5 portray small boats difficult to classify but perhaps clinker built nonetheless.


Resolution is 1163 x 908 pixels, 150 dpi for the digital file available for commercial license. The digital file has not been restored or enhanced.
