European Ships 3

Three ships engage in battle at close quarters, a Carrack is in the foreground. Spear throwers take aim from the forecastle and crow's nest. The type of ship occupied by their enemy is not clear, it may be a Cog. There is a third ship in the background also attacking the Cog. A soldier in the crow's nest hurls down what may be a large stone.

By the mid 16th century, small breech loading cannon and a variety of muzzle loading cannon had been developed, such weapons are visible in the Cog. Marines in the Carrack are firing an early long barreled, shoulder gun.
