Image Archive - Hall of Fame 1.10 EARLY LOCOMOTIVES and RAILROADS MT. WASHINGTON COG RAILWAY and STAGECOACH (NH, USA) |
|
| The Mount Washington Cog Railway in New Hampshire opened July 3, 1869 and is still in operation. The track runs along a steep, 3.1 mile long trestle whose maximum gradient is over 37%. This is the only railroad on Earth whose entire run is built on a trestle. Visitors are taken to the summit of Mt. Washington. This station scene with stagecoach arrival is exceptional. |
